Things to Consider When Buying Slotted Rotors

Slotted Rotors

Slotted rotors are mechanisms found on most electric and hybrid vehicles that allow the use of regenerative braking. As an engine works to slow the vehicle, it displaces kinetic energy. This kinetic energy is transferred to the electrical generation system through regenerative braking actuators. These devices act as brake pads on a car’s friction brakes or friction shoes on a truck’s drum brakes—with one big difference: The braking force generated by these actuators is variable, meaning that it can recharge the battery pack instantaneously.

Look for slotted rotors

Below are things to consider when buying slotted rotors

  1. Price

The price of slotted rotors varies. This can be confusing to buyers who are looking for the best, but this is due to the number of factors that determine their prices. When you look for slotted rotors, you need not worry about the price, but other factors.

  1. Material of construction

Usually, slotted rotors are made either from carbon steel or stainless steel. Carbon steel is more affordable, while stainless steel is more durable and can last longer. Carbon steel is however less expensive than stainless steel but the low price might make buyers look for alternatives that are of good quality but are cheaper than carbon steel slotted rotors.

  1. Style

When choosing a style, one has to consider the use of the vehicle they have as well as where they live. A slotted rotor that works well in areas with a slippery winter may be less effective in a place where precipitation isn’t as common.

  1. Size

One of the things to consider when it comes to size is the diameter of a rotor. A rotor with a larger diameter will not cool as efficiently as one with a smaller diameter, but it can handle heavier loads and pressures when it comes to braking force.

Conclusion

Slotted rotors are one of the mechanisms for braking that has been used on many vehicles. Their use is however limited to a few areas and their effectiveness depends on the vehicle they are used on and the environment they operate in.

About the archive

Healthy Cities & Making Cities Liveable

From 2008 to 2017 this site was the online home of the Healthy Cities and Making Cities Liveable conferences — a decade of programs, keynote speakers, venues and abstracts on healthier, more liveable urban places.

In later years the site continued as a blog covering health, homes and everyday city living. This restoration preserves all of it — the conference pages, the articles and the photos — as a static archive you can browse and search.
