Brisbane Orthodontics Australia

Orthodontics Brisbane Australia may take the form of braces, aligners, headgear, or other appliances. Orthodontic treatment has two main goals: to correct the alignment and position of teeth and improve the jaw’s function.

Orthodontic treatment just like brisbane orthodontics ensures complete oral health and helps the wearer attain a more esthetically pleasing smile. While orthodontics has traditionally meant metal braces (braces fused to teeth with metal brackets and wires), today’s options provide the same corrective treatment minus the unsightly metal.

There are different types of orthodontics braces: fixed braces, clear braces, and lingual braces.

Fixed Braces

Fixed braces are fixed appliances attached to your teeth with metal brackets and wires. They are placed on the front (or “maxillary”) and back (or “mandibular”) teeth. Fixed braces are usually made of stainless steel, but clear bands may be used. The wires are tightened with braces placed on the teeth, and over time, they gradually shift your teeth into their correct positions.

Fixed braces are the most commonly used type of fixed braces, and consist of brackets and bands cemented to the teeth. In the past, fixed braces were made of metal, but now there are clear fixed braces that can be made from ceramic or transparent materials. Fixed braces work faster than removable braces. However, they can be harder to clean and are not removable for eating and brushing.

Clear Braces

Not everyone has enough teeth to sport conventional metal braces. But clear braces can be a viable alternative. Also known as clear aligners, clear braces are removable and easy to clean. They won’t disfigure your facial structure, and they won’t affect your ability to speak or eat. Plus, they typically cost less than traditional braces.

Clear braces are invisible and made from the same materials as traditional braces but are made in a thinner, see-through material that makes them much less noticeable. A clear brace can straighten your teeth in as little as six months, and unlike traditional metal braces, clear aligners can be removed to eat, drink, brush, and floss, making eating your favorite foods much easier.

Lingual Braces

If you are someone who is unhappy with your crooked teeth, then you may be a candidate for lingual braces. Lingual braces are unique because they sit on the tongue side of the teeth instead of on the back, preventing them from being seen when smiling. This means that people won’t be able to guess that you have braces on! If you like that lingual braces are practically invisible but are more self-conscious about the appearance of metal braces, you are a perfect candidate for lingual braces.

Healthy Cities & Making Cities Liveable

From 2008 to 2017 this site was the online home of the Healthy Cities and Making Cities Liveable conferences — a decade of programs, keynote speakers, venues and abstracts on healthier, more liveable urban places.

In later years the site continued as a blog covering health, homes and everyday city living. This restoration preserves all of it — the conference pages, the articles and the photos — as a static archive you can browse and search.
